54 million US adults with chronic pain relied on medication and nonpharmacologic therapies in 2020.
Over-the-counter pain relievers and exercise were the most commonly used treatments.
Prescription opioid use for chronic pain decreased, but there was no significant increase in nonpharmacologic therapies. [ more ]
